You know by now that we love the combination of white walls, white doors and white skirting set against wood floor. And this renovated apartment in Gothenburg is a great example of how natural walnut flooring in particular conveys a true sense of luxury and cosiness in a home.
Kährs Walnut Montreal is a 3-strip walnut wood floor with a lot of character. The natural depth and variations in the wood grains, combined with a silky-smooth surface finish, creates a deeply layered effect that just keeps getting better over time.
Fun fact: did you know that in ancient times, people believed that back aches could be relieved by carrying a walnut in its shell in the pocket?

This lovely apartment in central Stockholm is not more than a large studio apartment, but with some creative styling, these owners have been able to transform the home into an airy 1 bedroom apartment. We’ve seen an increase in inner walls/partitions made from glass with black trims that creates a divide for privacy while allowing for the space to feel open, airy and bright. The black trim not only has an aesthetically edgy feel, but also serves a safety purpose (I think we’ve all walked into an all too clear glass partition once or twice in our lives, right?). For added privacy, one idea would be to hang a curtain or blind on one side of the glass partition that can easily be drawn closed or open.
As for the colour scheme, this is an extremely important element when working with smaller spaces. Maximising natural light is key, and creating an illusion of added height and depth is something that will certainly make all the difference in enlarging a space- something which is perfectly portrayed in this apartment. The colour palette is muted, the walls and main elements are white, the “fuss” is kept minimal and all the focus is on the 1-strip wood floor (such as Kährs Oak Cornwall), which visually helps to elongate the room by directing the viewer’s eye toward the natural light source. Installing a wood floor in this manner will also enhance the look of the wood grain and maximise the natural wood feeling, as it causes the light to bounce off the floor beautifully. Et voilà, you have a larger space!

This apartment represented by Fantastic Frank in central Stockholm is a beautiful portrayal of perfect feminine interiors. The home not only looks great, but also makes excellent use of the apartment’s small m2 space. Whenever you have a smaller home, it’s always a great idea to decorate in uniform, suave (e.g. pastel, nature) tones in order to visually de-clutter and enlarge the space.
The white-washed herringbone floor adds a interesting, timeless and classic touch to the base of the interiors. Kährs Oak ABC White wood floor is a white oiled oak floor with colour variations and small knots. Herringbone floors are not old fashioned!

P.S. We wouldn’t mind watching the 2014 World Cup on that big screen!

Sometimes, you just need to keep it basic. But basic does not have to be boring. Sticking to basics in your home will actually give you more room to be creative- room to change and evolve as your personal preferences naturally do over time. Your space is a representation, a reflection, of you.
Keep your space basic and classic with a natural Swedish 3-strip oak floor such as Kährs Oak Siena. A natural wood floor with strips selected to provide a calm appearance but still with certain degree of variation in the grain. Kährs Oak Siena is readily available in stock in Dubai for immediate installation.
The first thought that came to mind when seeing this one-bedroom apartment in central Stockholm was: urban tropic. That’s how I feel is the best way to describe the style of this funky home. What makes this home so interesting is that there is a clear mix of vibrant classic caribbean colours (the wallpaper behind the bed kind of also gives it away) and muted urban vintage/hipster accents. Not necessarily a combination I would have thought possible to achieve in an aesthetic way, but this homeowner has pulled it off marvellously.
This goes to show that dark wood flooring does not necessarily need to be limited to large, open spaces filled with windows and light. A dark floor does not necessarily darken, or make a space feel smaller, if done in the right way. The key lies, as always, in the foundation – the base – of the apartment. All mouldings and major finishes are in pure white, and the contrast of the dark wood floor gives the space depth and warmth, and the space is successfully feeling airy and cozy at the same time.
Kährs Oak Lava is a 3-strip floor with a brushed, black pigmented, matt lacquer finish, and is currently available in stock in Dubai. Visit our showroom today for a consultation with one of our Wood Flooring Specialists and to experience the wonderful world of Kährs wood flooring.

We LOVE this apartment’s masculine interpretation of 1950/60’s “Retro-Modern” style. A very hipster, yet glam feel, highly reminiscent of what is seen in the hit TV series Mad Men (yes, we are currently imagining Mr. Draper deep in though, sitting in one of those armchairs).
As you might know by now, our favourite combination is black + white + wood, so this apartment definitely scores high in our books. By keeping the palette basic, and focusing on creating depth and interest with diverse textures/textiles and decorative objects, this home has an beautiful and timeless elegance to it.
To achieve this look, opt for Kährs Oak Nouveau Charcoal, a 2-strip wood floor with a brushed, black pigmented, matt lacquer finish. Bevelled 4-sided to create the effect of a beautiful 1-strip plank.
Ash is a strong, hard wood species, even harder than Oak. This wood species is pale in a typical Scandinavian way with fine, brown streaks and few discreet knots. It has a relatively long grain and ambers over the years. Ash is used to make tools, wood flooring and furniture. Some of Kährs Ash floors have strong color variations that really bring them to life.
This cozy villa incorporates classic Scandinavian 1-strip Ash wood flooring with impressive ceiling heights, graphic Moroccan tiles, sleek &tradition stools, a large dining area and an overall rugged-yet-contemporary style to the home.
On the first floor, we find Ash Sandvig – a light, exclusive 1-strip floor. Nature’s own design with knots and a lively structure. A characteristic is its bi-colour pattern with a soft white matt lacquer, giving the otherwise rustic-looking floor a contemporary and airy feel.
On the second floor we find a very similar, yet different 1-strip Ash wood floor. Ash Gotland makes a bold statement and gives a warm and cozy feel to the more private family space upstairs with its darker core that creates fantastic patterns.
Though these two Ash wood floors are very similar and harmoniously create a common theme throughout the home, the finish is what differentiates them not only in appearances, but on the overall affect they will have on a space. Brilliant!
