We have seen some really prestigious and beautiful projects here in Dubai, but few do it as well as Viktor Udzenija. The man behind Viktor Udzenija Architecture + Design can be considered nothing less of a visionary, and we have been fortunate to work with him on several projects in Dubai. One of which is this spectacular penthouse in Dubai’s stately Index Tower located in the heart of Dubai’s Financial Center (DIFC) – featured in Harper’s Bazaar Interiors December 2012 issue.
The contemporary home not only features some majestic iconic pieces, but also has one of Kährs grandest (literally!) wood floors throughout the penthouse. Oak Espace by Kährs Grande Collection is a blue-white-grey coloured natural oak floor with subtle variety due to the smoking of each individual 2.8 meter long plank. The handscraped surface, knots and cracks all add to the cozy and natural wood feel that this floor has.
Oh, how we love this home.
Reminiscent of an hip hotel suite in bustling Manhattan, this opulent studio apartment creates an airy feel with its high ceilings, neutral scheme and punches of colour in details. All elements of this home add up to the highly interesting and luxurious look of an exclusive Manhattan hotel suite, while still containing the warmth and welcoming feel of a home.
To get this look, select a dark chocolate wood flooring such as Oak Lava by Kährs Harmony Collection. The dramatic 3-strip floor will effortlessly give your home that cool, timeless Manhattan style while creating a sense of comfort underfoot.
That first cup of freshly brewed morning coffee. A captivating book that will take you to another world. Breakfast in bed and glittering sun rays streaming in through your window.
Your home should be so much more than just a place to rest your head between a hectic social and work life – it is a feeling, an atmosphere, an environment and space where you can be yourself and unwind. We believe it is important to cherish your sanctuary, and make it a place to be free, with comfort being the key ingredient. A natural wood floor has an extremely inviting warmth that is so seldom experienced with tiles or marble flooring. It will trigger the feeling of an environment where you will want to spend time as soon as you step in through the door. And one that your bare feet will thank you for.
Kährs Oak Weimar is a narrow 1-strip floor in selected, natural oak. With bevelled edges, brushed surface and matt lacquered finish that gives maximum wood feeling. Simply the perfect wood floor.
In the latest issue of InsideOut magazine, we have two of our residential projects featured in the UAE home section!
The first one, titled “New and Improved” is the home of Debbie Cope (founder of House Hunters Real Estate) which features the beautiful Oak Oyster wood floor by Kährs Artisan Collection. Debbie selected the beautiful floor to complete her Hamptons-inspired home, and what a beautiful match it is! The floor looks absolutely amazing in combination with the relaxed, easy-breezy furniture and silver decorative details.
“Through the Looking Glass” is the second home – a breathtaking penthouse in Dubai Marina that was designed by “starchitect” Victor Udzenija (founder of Viktor Udzenija Architecture + Design). The glamorous home features Oak Nouveau Bronze by Kährs Classic Nouveau Collection. The warm honey-toned floor creates a luxurious and cozy base for all the designer furniture and complements each piece beautifully.
What a difference some wood flooring can do to a home, regardless of style! And with a repertoire of over 160 floors, we can guarantee a floor to suit yours.
InsideOut magazine is now available in stores, as well as for free download as an app for Apple and Android tablets.

Silver is a beautiful metallic colour that adds interest to any object, including a wood floor. So it comes as no surprise that one of our favourites from Kährs Shine Collection is the striking floor, Black Silver – a 1-strip ash, black stain with silver metallic in the pores.
Combine silver, black and brown tones with unbleached linen, white and deep green accents to create balance between natural materials/hues and the cool metallics.
Kährs wood floors don’t just have to be installed on the floor. Kährs wood flooring was recently installed at the new Asia Republic restaurant located at the majestic Atlantis The Palm Hotel & Resort – but instead of putting the wood on the floor, the walls and ceiling were clad with Oak Ember from Kährs Harmony Collection.
The restaurant occupies a small, square space tucked away in a corner. A shiny black bar with five or six high stools runs along one wall and there are wooden canteen-style tables with benches in the middle of the room. The decor has a modern, minimalist Far Eastern feel to it, with lots of clean lines, large mirrors, wood and bonsai trees dotted around (The National). Located near the entrance of Aquaventure Waterpark, newly-opened Asia Republic gives Atlantis guests and visitors a chance to discover the true flavours of Asia, with dishes from South East Asia, Korea and China.

This ultra-modern and cool Saheel Villa in Arabian Ranches is extremely beautiful with its predominantly masculine colour palette and feminine details, which makes this home glamourous and gives it a real wow-factor. To get this look, combine earth tones, daring black and stainless steel details with Walnut Bloom wood flooring by Kährs Linnea Lodge Collection. Walnut Bloom is 2-strip walnut floor in a clean grade with no/few knots or significant colour variation.

Give your home instant muted elegance with a white washed wood floor, such as Ash Skagen from Kährs Sand Collection. Ash Skagen combines the naturalness and liveliness of ash with the elegance and lightness of white matt lacquer. The white matt lacquer highlights the wood’s natural beauty, giving the whole floor a soft and pleasing finish. The floor is dramatic, yet not enough so to be distracting from the rest of the interiors.
Seen below is the home of Norwegian blogger Nina Holst, who is also the founder of home decoration community Stylizimo.com. We are loving the combination of the wood floor, monochrome art and furniture, wooden utensils and geometric wallpaper.

Natural wood elements add warmth and interest to a cool graphic or neutral colour palette. Don’t be afraid to combine different wood species for added depth.
A rustic natural wood floor, combined with a contemporary and monochrome kitchen for balance – as seen in this Index Tower apartment in DIFC with Kährs Oak Oyster.
