When searching for interior design inspiration for kids rooms, it is highly likely that you’ll find most images show anything from timeless soft pastel to scandi-cool monochrome colour schemes, with one common denominator: wood flooring. There’s a reason for that. Natural wood flooring is absolutely the best kind of flooring you could choose for your little ones.
Now, for some facts. Natural wooden floors are one of the easiest ways to uplift a space – and they’re surprisingly child friendly. Just make sure you choose a wood with the right high-quality surface treatment. Kährs engineered wood floors are not only 75% more stable than solid wood flooring, but they also come pre-finished in Kährs factory in Sweden with four different treatments: high-gloss lacquer, silk matt lacquer, matt lacquer and nature oil – all are suitable for a family home. In addition, all surface treatments are solvent free.
Kährs wood floors are softer (and thereby safer) than stone flooring such as tile or marble, more hyper-allergenic than carpet, and on top of that extremely cozy and environmentally friendly. The installation procedure is quick and clean, meaning we don’t use any toxic adhesives or chemicals that could be potentially harmful to your children.
After all, with so many harmful environmental pollutants in our day-to-day lives, both in the foods we eat and our outdoor lives, it is comforting to know that a wood floor is completely natural, enabling you and your children to breathe easy at home everyday.

Decorating in neutrals is beautiful but can also be hard to achieve. When working with neutral colors (gray, brown, white, beige), it is important to add plenty of living plants for a space to be balanced and not feel too flat. Green plants make any living room more welcoming. A green plant and a splash of green accent here and there creates a more homey feeling and adds freshness to the room.
Here is one of those small apartments you dream about. At a mere 29 sqm, the use of the few square meters is completely optimal. We are especially loving the way raw OSB (oriented strand board) and oak are combined, especially on the stairscase. The architect has cleverly used OSB board to structure and optimize the space, which still feels light and spacious despite the limited number of sqm.

All white.. everything.
The key to successfully designing a space in an all-white scheme is layering. By layering different materials, textures and shades of white together you essentially create depth, which is the biggest factor to consider in order to avoid the space falling flat and feeling clinical.
We are especially loving romantic boho-chic homes in pure white enriched with elegant wood textures, soft cottons and wools, luxurious lace and linens. It’s all in the details.
Here’s another example of how industrial elements with mute colours and raw organic materials such as cotton, wood and jute combine together beautifully to create visual magic.
This coffee shop in Barcelona, designed by INTSIGHT has a graphic look and highly textured feel that adds layers and in turn, a lot of intrigue – making this café a real hipster heaven.

This beautiful home built in 1898, but renovated in 2010/11, shows us yet again how beautiful a classic 3-strip oak floor is. And this particularly rustic floor gives a very elegant yet warm feel to the home.
Kährs Oak Moss is a 3-strip floor, treated with brown natural oil. Part of Kährs Harmony Collection, this floor is reminiscent of the comfort of home, with its warm, nurturing atmosphere. A place to retreat, awash with mellow tones that calm the body and soul. The subtle, rich tones of Kährs Harmony Collection are designed to complement all interior styles and to create a sense of well-being.
A colour between grey and beige, closely akin to taupe; Unfinished; not fully processed; neither bleached nor dyed.
The graphic black and white interiors that have been popular on a wide front for several seasons has gained major competition from “greige” interiors. This combination of soft grays and dirty beige earth tones, is romantic, timeless, whimsical and beautiful.
Pearl by Kährs Shine Collection is the perfect wood floor with its high-gloss, silver/pearl shimmer finish if you are looking to add a tasteful and contemporary kind of glamour to your greige interiors.
If the rustic kind of bold is more your thing, then our grandest wood floor Oak Espace by Kährs Grande Collection is the one for you. Not only is it beautifully smoked with heavy variations between grey and beige/brown tones, but it is also handscraped and contains knots and cracks for that true rustic feeling best experienced by bare feet.
Is there a better description for this turn-of-the-century attic apartment than rustic monochrome?
The large bright living room; the original black beams on the ceiling; a dramatic black wood floor that pops against the crisp white walls; a beautiful fireplace that cozies up the space. This is a winning combination.
If you would like to have a monochrome scheme but fear it might come across as being too cold, then adding some natural materials and textures such as natural plants and wood elements (for example, an oak coffee table with a beautiful brown patina) as well as memorabilia or heirlooms will create a sense of balance. The key to achieving charm and an inhabited feeling ultimately lies in the details.
You can also take it a step further by introducing an accent colour in small details such as cushions or throws, and rotate the colour on a seasonal basis – all while keeping the monochrome base.
As for the floor – if you are interested in a dramatic black oak floor that will last a lifetime – we recommend Kährs Oak Nouveau Charcoal, a 2-strip floor with a brushed, black pigmented, matt lacquer finish.
Inspired by the modern-day graphic gray, white and black decor, this home has a ultra-cool Rock & Roll theme – a cocky attitude and hot pink accents mixed up with warmer earth tones and soft textile components.
As with any project, it’s always best to start off with the foundation/base. Freshen up your walls with white paint and lay a classic 3-strip oak floor Oak Siena by Kährs European Naturals Collection with white skirting and mouldings for a streamlined finish. Decorate with heartwarming earth tones that are in line with your home’s base tones. They do say “a solid foundation is the bridge to success” for a reason after all!
Once your base is set, add a personalized graphic wallpaper by Mr Perswall as well as an unexpected colour for a pop of rebellion (Rock & Roll!) that will add interest without being overwhelming or tiring over time.
