With a strong passion for preserving the environment, Kährs has placed itself at the forefront of sustainable development and the green movement. Most of the wood used in Kährs real wood flooring is from forests in Scandinavia and Europe, where new growth exceeds that which is felled.
Kährs ranges also include many of the world’s most beautiful species from the most exciting parts of the globe, including North American Hard Maple and Walnut, Australian Jarrah, FSC certified Jatoba and FSC-Fairtrade® Rauli/Oak from Chile. Kährs is determined to promote environmental awareness even in global terms.
EMAS is the European Union’s voluntary environmental management program. Its purpose is to promote environmental management, environmental improvements, and environmental audits in industry and to provide information to the public about participating companies’ environmental status.
Kährs has always focused on environmental work and is EMAS-registered since 1997.
All the production units within the Kährs Group shall implement quality and environmental management systems according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and become registered under EMAS. All Kährs production units – Nybro, Ljusdal, Brumunddal and Blomstermåla – have already met the certification requirements.

Kährs also holds an ISO 14001 an environmental certification. Waste products from forest felling provide district heating for the local community. In addition, the ash remains is returned to the forest as fertiliser.
Kährs is also certified with ISO 9001, the quality management systems standard.
The FSC® tracing system (Chain of Custody or CoC) connects responsible forestry methods and products with the consumers. With this traceability, companies can show that they support environmentally and socially responsible forestry and put the FSC® mark on their products. Kährs obtained its FSC® certificate in 2005.
