CITY MOTIONS

Sarah

Jotun’s City Motions Palette from their Colour Trends 2018 inspired the greige-brown moodboard theme for our Floor of the Month for February 2018: Kährs Oak Granite.

This palette from Jotun’s 2018 collection includes colours such as the pale grey Bare; the rich brown Norwegian Wood; and warm beige Raw Canvas – “inspired by Copenhagen and London, Brooklyn and Berlin – all pockets of modernity, brimming with creative culture” and epitomises cool, clean lines balanced with softness and warmth. Where industrial meets comfort.

Kährs Oak Granite is the perfect combination of both. The cool cement-grey stain on this smoked oak floor allows the warmer tones of the wood to seep through, resulting in a beautifully rustic expression. Each board is carefully brushed to bring out the character of the grain and highlight the natural texture of the timber. The matt lacquer finish eliminates glare while protecting the wood from daily wear.

Kährs Oak Granite 3-strip is currently available in stock in Dubai. Visit our showroom in Sidra Tower or contact us on tel. +971 4 369 55 69 for more information.

VINTAGE DECO

Sarah

This lofty apartment in Stockholm by Historiska Hem boasts big windows and an industrial feeling that we love. The deco has been kept minimalist but with plenty of vintage elements. The home is cozy despite its bare, industrial base, with the help of the white-washed wood floor and a combination of textures, giving a very homey and comfortable feeling to the space.

To achieve a similar look, we suggest our beautiful Oak Paris wood floor by Kährs Capital Collection. Only the finest oak is selected for this exclusive 1-strip/plank floor, and the natural wood characteristics are enhanced by brushing and microbevelled edges, and a slight white-washed surface.

LOFT LOVE

Sarah

We absolutely love the look of this loft apartment. Creating a loft feeling means keeping the decor fairly minimalist, while using diverse raw materials for a textural and tactile variety. Create contrasts with a common denominator – preferably selecting materials with a slight vintage essence to them that converted old factory spaces often have to them.

The key, however, lies in the foundations- meaning the floor, the walls, the influx of natural light as well as the overall architecture and working around these to create an authentic loft feeling. Kährs Vedbo (pictured) has a natural oak colour with enhanced contrast and warmth; and golden tones from honey and ripe rye during harvest time.

We suggest combining the rustic Kährs Vedbo wood flooring with a White Brick wallpaper by Mr Perswall (D.Tales), a funky Molecular Pendant Lamp by House Doctor (The Bowery Company), and other neutral furniture and decor. Allow for pops of colour – in limited quantities – displayed in artwork, such as pop-artsy posters (Gallery One).

A great general tip for artwork is to invest in some nice frames with real glass. Light will beautifully reflect off the glass, increasing the sense of space and light while showcasing and enhancing the art displayed. You may also choose to leave your frames on the floor rather than hanging them on the walls- leaning them casually against a wall and stacked one in front of the other.

BEDROOM INSPIRATION: INDUSTROMANCE

Sarah

The bedroom is one of the most important spaces in a home, and making sure that it is a calm, harmonious and tranquil space is an absolute must.

We are really feeling inspired by the “industromance” (industrial meets romantic) in this bedroom in Sweden via Stadshem Mäkleri. The combination of earthy tones and natural materials together create a very cosy and inviting feeling.

Seeing as the most important element in the bedroom is the bed, especially considering that we spend on average 25 years(!) of our lives sleeping- it is best to ensure the mattress you select is comfortable and of a high quality standard. A great option for high-quality mattresses is the Dream Mattress by Celeste. The Dream Mattress was specially designed for the hot weather of the UAE, and regulates air flow and restores your energy while you sleep. Definitely worth the investment!

We suggest pairing Celeste’s Dream Mattress with a simple, nearly-invisible base and cosy white linen sheets for a Scandinavian look. Add soft details such as a beautiful pendant lamp, rug, cushions and art with a little bit rougher, industrial-style accents such as a floor/table lamp, wire basket, and clothes rack.

Complete the look with a rustic wood floor with a slight grey tint, such as Möre by Kährs Småland Collection. Möre is a rustic floor with a scraped, flowing surface that high enhances the structure in an natural way, where the cold grey tones appear to have been worn down, revealing a warmer base.

We love the combination of the hard and soft textures in this industromantic bedroom!

WEEKEND EYECANDY

Sarah

So the weekend is upon us and we feel it’s high time for some eye candy! This duplex apartment in Stockholm, currently being represented by estate agents Wrede, is pure perfection in our eyes. We are in love with the understated grandeur of this beautiful space. The tones are muted, ceiling 5.5 m high and the windows are large, allowing plenty of natural light in. This whole space exudes freshness, industrial modernity and pure elegance. The wood flooring is a simple, natural oak 1-strip floor with naturally occurring knots and colour variation. To view more images of this beautiful space, please click here.

PIPERSGATAN 27A

Sarah

This beautiful apartment is characterised by its generous ceiling height, modern stylish selection of materials and its cool industrial feel.

The wood flooring has a strong focus, adding a soft yet rugged look, with each individual plank in full enhancement due to bevelled edges. Kährs Oak Nouveau Brown is a 1-strip floor in selected oak, treated with brown natural oil that produces a striking patinated surface. The bevelled edges help to create a floor whose look and feel recall bygone days.

A perfect dose of beauty and patina from the first moment.

INDUSTROMANCE

Sarah

What do you get when you combine romantic and industrial elements? Industromance.

And that is exactly what we’re loving about Yvonne Koné‘s newly opened flagship store in Copenhagen, Denmark, designed by Studio Oliver Gustav. The nude pink combined with the raw, gray-hued wooden floors and iron details are the sophisticated elements that compose the subtle beauty of the store.

Like the look? We’ve got the perfect wood floor to steal the style with. Kährs Oak Slate is a really rustic wood floor with a heavy handscraping. Smoking gives the board a purple-gray-blue hue with white pores. The ideal floor for a true industromantic space.

Industrial Nature

Sarah

Here’s another example of how industrial elements with mute colours and raw organic materials such as cotton, wood and jute combine together beautifully to create visual magic.

This coffee shop in Barcelona, designed by INTSIGHT has a graphic look and highly textured feel that adds layers and in turn, a lot of intrigue – making this café a real hipster heaven.
