Hello February! Team Nordic Homeworx started the new month off with an exciting kick-off day at The Fairmont Dubai yesterday (what a view!). We had a really great day with lots of team building exercises, laughter, brainstorming sessions, inspiration and plenty of exciting plans for the year ahead!
We’ve had an extremely successful 2014 and are excited and ready to go over and beyond expectations in 2015 – fully equipped with an enthusiastic, fun, friendly and inspired team of Kährs wood flooring aficionados. Bring it on, 2015!
The wood floor in this apartment looks absolutely beautiful matched with classic, elegant and muted interiors.
Kährs Oak Nouveau Black is a 1-strip floor that has been refined through brushing and black pigmenting, a matt lacquer finish and the creation of a distinctive bevel on all four edges. A floor that is as beautiful as it is easy to look after.

This lovely apartment in central Stockholm is not more than a large studio apartment, but with some creative styling, these owners have been able to transform the home into an airy 1 bedroom apartment. We’ve seen an increase in inner walls/partitions made from glass with black trims that creates a divide for privacy while allowing for the space to feel open, airy and bright. The black trim not only has an aesthetically edgy feel, but also serves a safety purpose (I think we’ve all walked into an all too clear glass partition once or twice in our lives, right?). For added privacy, one idea would be to hang a curtain or blind on one side of the glass partition that can easily be drawn closed or open.
As for the colour scheme, this is an extremely important element when working with smaller spaces. Maximising natural light is key, and creating an illusion of added height and depth is something that will certainly make all the difference in enlarging a space- something which is perfectly portrayed in this apartment. The colour palette is muted, the walls and main elements are white, the “fuss” is kept minimal and all the focus is on the 1-strip wood floor (such as Kährs Oak Cornwall), which visually helps to elongate the room by directing the viewer’s eye toward the natural light source. Installing a wood floor in this manner will also enhance the look of the wood grain and maximise the natural wood feeling, as it causes the light to bounce off the floor beautifully. Et voilà, you have a larger space!

Kährs Oak Jersey is a 1-strip floor in selected natural oak. The bevelled edges help to create a floor whose look and feel recall bygone days. This apartment in Stockholm by Fantastic Frank is a perfect representation of how beautiful a natural and lively 1-strip oak wood floor is. A classic that will never go out of style!

The first thought that came to mind when seeing this one-bedroom apartment in central Stockholm was: urban tropic. That’s how I feel is the best way to describe the style of this funky home. What makes this home so interesting is that there is a clear mix of vibrant classic caribbean colours (the wallpaper behind the bed kind of also gives it away) and muted urban vintage/hipster accents. Not necessarily a combination I would have thought possible to achieve in an aesthetic way, but this homeowner has pulled it off marvellously.
This goes to show that dark wood flooring does not necessarily need to be limited to large, open spaces filled with windows and light. A dark floor does not necessarily darken, or make a space feel smaller, if done in the right way. The key lies, as always, in the foundation – the base – of the apartment. All mouldings and major finishes are in pure white, and the contrast of the dark wood floor gives the space depth and warmth, and the space is successfully feeling airy and cozy at the same time.
